The challenge
To bring together 125 well-known philosophical readings from over the ages in an intuitive and reusable CD-ROM shell.
The process
The readings came to us in batches of electronic documents and their corresponding hardcopies. Wherever applicable, the hardcopies had been scanned by the client and put through the OCR process to convert them into text.
The process required bringing together a team of outside proofreaders to take on the task of cleaning up the documents, checking for spelling and grammatical accuracy, and tagging each file for use by the CD-ROM.
In parallel, the following were developed to add value to this title:
- a Flash introduction with audio
- an interactive timeline in Flash that links to the various readings
- philosopher biographies with imagery and links to their individual readings
- a glossary with over 500 terms and definitions
The outcome
A title, named "The Primary Source: Philosophical Readings with Commentary" already viewed as groundbreaking
in its market. Although similar CDs have been produced, the Publisher expects this unique release to take
its market by storm.
